Achieving Gold: a fantastic year of sports provision at West Tytherley

This year has ended with the wonderful news that we have achieved our Gold Sportmark award.

This is recognition of the exceptional quality of our PE provision in school, after school clubs and participation in sporting competitions locally and across the county.

In school, the children have accessed high-quality PE teaching from Personal Best Education and Lions in the Community and they have enjoyed learning a range of sporting disciplines: football, netball, gymnastics, dance, and hockey. In the spring term, Oak class enjoyed six weeks of swimming at Farleigh School where they developed their skills and water competence.

In addition to this, the children have been coached in cricket and tennis by professional coaches from local clubs. This has been a brilliant opportunity for children to discover new sporting interests that they can pursue outside school.

The school has attended many cluster competitions including: cross-country, football, athletics, and cricket. The classes have also been involved in the Hampshire Dance Festival organised by Mountbatten School. At some of these, we enjoyed teaming up with Broughton, our Federated school.

At the end of the year, the children have been rewarded for all their efforts by invitations to attend both the Hampshire Games and the Commonwealth Festival where they were able to take part in an extensive range of activities including quidditch, airtrack, swimming, and judo.

We are looking forward to another wonderful year of sporting excellence and we have new sports kit that we can’t wait to wear to represent our school.
