School Meals and Milk

Our School Dinners are provided by Chartwells: the UK's leading school and education catering company.

Chartwells' school meals have been lovingly created by a team of talented chefs and dedicated nutritionists, making sure our tasty menus are packed with all the ingredients children need to grow strong and healthy.

The quality of our school dinners is exceptionally good and as a result, the majority of our children choose to have a cooked meal. A two course freshly cooked hot meal currently costs £2.75 per day.

Our dinners operate on a three-week menu, which you can download below.

We are a nut free school and would ask you to bear this in mind if your child chooses to bring a lunchbox to school.

Medical Special Diets

How to make medical diet applications?

  • New medical diet applications should still be made via the HCC Special Diet Portal which will be transferred to Chartwells.

Nut/Peanut Safety:

  • All menus are designed by Chartwells and approved by HCC.
  • We do not use nuts/peanuts or ingredients with “may contain” warnings.
  • If a supply issue arises, children with allergies will receive an alternative meal until a safe replacement is sourced.

We avoid claiming to be “nut free” as this can create a false sense of security.

Extra Support:

  • Nutrient counts will be provided for all dishes for children who need to monitor intake for medical reasons.

Universal Infant Free School Meals

All Key Stage 1 pupils are able to have a school meal at lunchtime, free of charge.

This applies to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, and requires no registration. Each child is entitled to a hot, two course meal at their school which will include a meat or non-meat main item with a healthy side, and a dessert.

The Government has made the commitment to fund all these meals and therefore Hampshire County County are encouraging all Key Stage 1 pupils to enjoy a school meal at lunchtime.

Free School Meals

Free school meals criteria

A child is eligible for free school meals if their parent or carer receives one or more of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seekers' Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit, and have an annual gross income, of no more than £16,190 as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (Parents who are made redundant or start working less than 16 hours per week, may find their children are entitled to free meals for a limited period.)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)

No other benefits qualify for free school meals from Key Stage 2 (years 3, 4, 5, 6) or for the pupil premium for Reception Year and Key Stage 1 (years 1, 2).

To check your child's eligibility for pupil premium or continued free school meals (from Key Stage 2), use the online checking facility

To complete a check you need the following information for yourself or the person you are checking on behalf of:

  • Your own name, date of birth, and contact details
  • National Insurance number or National Asylum Seekers number
  • Child's name and date of birth
  • School your child is attending or will attend

Please be assured that this information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

It is important to register for free school meals even if your child is in Year R, 1 or 2 since this is a way the school receives pupil premium funding.

Our School Milk Scheme

Our school provides a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils and we would like to invite you to register your child.  School milk is free for under-5s, and for over-5s it is available at a subsidised* price.

Each child that registers with Cool Milk will receive a 189ml portion of semi-skimmed milk every day, delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom.  Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it is rehydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused.
